Antigua is a guilty pleasure. Although it is perhaps the most "touristy" city in Central America, it is definitely worth a visit! Be sure to go on the weekend, when you can party with some locals from Guate and the throngs backpackers. |
| | So many things to do! The best way to explore Antigua is to just walk around. There are beautiful churches and ruins around every corner. Take a stroll, you won't get lost!
Be sure to take a hike in the surrounding volcanoes, if you're lucky, you might catch an eruption. But, be advised, some tourists have been killed or injured during their hikes, so exercise caution, and go with a guide!!!
Take the time to visit the Artisan Market (its near the regular market, but has much better Arts and Crafts).
There is also a great bagel place, called the Bagel Barn, just near the main square. Try their "liquados", yum! Sky Bar - where I took this picture" has a great view of the city.
For those who plan to stay in Antigua for more than a few days, a nice way to relax is with a movie night, many cafes around the city have these, showing mostly Hollywood movies. (E.g. Bagel Barn) |
