Viva Las Vegas If you don't believe in capitalism, you may want to steer clear of Las Vegas. This is, apparently, what people do when people throw obscene amounts of money at them--build an oasis in the desert that is over the top in every way. The whole town is like a living museum, you really don't have to do more than just walk through the casinos and be overwhelmed by excess. In fact, you could occupy your time for weeks without gambling a cent, but it will cost you. Vegas is like a theme park, full of rides, shopping, dining, entertainment, and other activities that you can't even imagine until you go there. I recommend at least one night of casino-hopping: start at either end, Treasure Island at the north side and the Mandalay Bay at the south. A monorail will help you span the space between Bally's and MGM Grand quickly (but don't miss Paris which is just south of Bally's), and moving sidewalks shuttle you between almost all the other casinos. You can see them all in one night. If you have time, you might also enjoy the older, campy north side of the strip and the downtown area for a glimpse of the origins of Vegas. Here are a few specific attractions I would not miss. |
