Elvis Ice Cream
Elvis will always be a part of our history, and I remember hearing stories about him, as I was growing up in Memphis, Tennessee. I was just a teenager when I heard the news about his death. I cried. I admired the man for his generous nature and of course, his many talents. I had wanted to see him in concert one day, but I never had the chance.
I had a coupon for Edy's ice cream, and I decided to try the Elvis, Love Me Tender Brownies flavo(u)r and it was really good! Too bad it was a Limited Edition, and when I returned to buy more, it was no longer available. The brownies really were "tender" as they melted in your mouth. It also had thick fudge swirled in rich and creamy vanilla ice cream. I do not know if this ice cream was available in other parts of America, or the world, for that matter. In Memphis, Elvis is everywhere!
Gates of Graceland
News dated December 16, 2004.
Lisa Marie Presley sold 85% of her interests in EPE (Elvis Presley Enterprises) for $100 million, but will retain the title to Graceland mansion, the 13 .6 acres, and all her father's personal effects. Tour operations will continue business as usual, and Lisa will certainly have a very Merry Christmas this year. For the full story, see the website below.

Presley
The actual garden is rather small, and I can only imagine it filled with a busload of tourists. I went one December morning, and was the only one there besides the gardeners. It was quite peaceful in a tranquil setting, but I think the telephone pole in the background seems a bit odd, and sort of takes away from the natural feeling of such a final resting place. Still, it was his home and in his own back yard, so I guess it is perfectly natural, after all.

Holiday Lights at Heartbreak Hotel
Right across the street from Graceland is the Heartbreak Hotel. They have a security guard station at the entrance for guests of the hotel, but there is a visitor's parking just before you get to the hotel guard, where I parked to take these photos, and went inside to find out more information about the hotel. Just be sure to check with the guard after you park, to let him know you won't be long. There was Elvis Christmas music playing outside and lots of fans in the sitting areas outside enjoying the view of the holiday decorations and festive lights. There was also a lighted harp disply next to the guitar, but I didn't include it in the photo.
For more information about the hotel, see the website listed below.

Merry Christmas to All, Elvis
Across the grounds from the Nativity scene at Graceland, is a little something for the kids. Santa in his sleigh with his reindeer appear to be ready for take off as Christmas is fast approaching. Elvis leaves his fans a note on the lawn every year wishing them a Merry Christmas, as he did when he actually lived there, so in a way, the spirit of Christmas lives on at Elvis' place.

Graceland's Life Size Nativity Scene
Every year, Graceland sets up a life size Nativity scene for the Christmas holidays. Unfortunately, it is difficult to see from the road, when the gate is locked at night. I was amazed when I downloaded this photograph, and saw the shining beam of sunlight shooting towards the star on top of the manger, almost like a mini-rainbow. Please click on the photo for a clearer view.
Happy Holidays from Memphis!

YES, Elvis the legendary performer, in concert!
Thanks to my dear friend Steve, (NC_Ziggy here on Virtual Tourist) for sending me some wonderful photographs of Elvis in concert. These photographs were taken approximately 6 months prior to the legendary performer's untimely death. These photographs are rare indeed, as Vernon Presley is also in attendance at the concert in Charlotte, North Carolina. His Father is standing right in front of the stage, clearly Elvis' biggest fan. It is very heartwarming to see the joy and pride in both of their faces as Elvis performs.
