This page is mostly for Ian's benefit, so that he can see the changes since his last visit in 1998. The photographs actually look much better than my scanner would have you believe. I will get around to adding some proper tips later... The introduction photo shows the Atlantis Tower along Marine Parade and the beach as viewed from Britannia Pier. For a humo(u)rous little story about a clueless American in England, (especially for you footie fans) see the travelogue below. I do hope you enjoy these photos, but I highly recommend that you visit Ian's great pages on Great Yarmouth, and since you are already here, you are now only a click away... Interesting View In the distance, you can see a wind farm spinning whilst drinking a Guinness on the outside deck of Britannia Pier. The view is lovely with an occasional seagull gliding nearby and the crisp cool sea breeze keeping your Guinness precisely chilled. This was my first experience with the famous Guinness shamrock. I was quite impressed, but then again, I am easily amused. Afterwards, we went searching for seashells down by the seashore. (or is that seafront, in England?) English can be so confusing, even for an American. Brits and Americans are at times, divided by a common English language. Please see my TransAtlantic Translations dictionary for some of the phenomenal differences between Britspeak and American English. |
Wind Farms are Dangerous ... Well, usually not, but they can be if you are an unsuspecting tourist in a strange land and you are too busy concentrating on the perfect photo opportunity to notice the lone stinging nettle eagerly awaiting an attack. Careful now, these things hurt! I can't remember exactly where this was, but it was on the way to Great Yarmouth from the Fens. If you do not know what a stinging nettle is, you really must find out to avoid this evil creature at all costs. Please see my London Warnings and Dangers tip for more details, including a photo. But they had been banned from our Gt'Y office years befor I came. Not since they were fattening, but they made so much stain on the paperwork... Gt'Y have changed a lot since I lived there.
