My first impressions of Canada!

by leebee1 - last update: Dec 7, 2004

Nature...

The first thing I noticed from the plane, were the mountains. They were breathtaking, I couldnt quite believe how they seemed to reach the clouds. I found myself in awe of them for the duration of my trip.
I remember someone once telling me in the forums, Canada in about nature, not infrastructure. They advised me to spend less time in the city and more time in the mountains. I absolutley couldn't agree more.
I found it to be quite bewildering that you could get from the city into the national parks in just a short drive.
Something that I will remember is the smell of the air, especially after rain...mmmmm.

Everyone seems very active!

Wherever we went people were jogging, cycling, hiking. I found myself thinking where everyone gets the energy, wondering what kind of hours they work.
It inspired me to get active myself, and within the first week I'd walked so much my legs and back ached. But it was soo much fun!

But dont discount the city...

We found Vancouver and surrounds to be quite charming, with many things to see and do. Another thing that we noted on, was we found the drivers to be soo courteous. They stop for you to cross the road, they let you in, it all seemed very relaxed...very different to here in Australia were everyone seems to be in a rush all the time.

Good comment on Main St. but, you may want to pinpoint Main and Hastings cross road. There are plenty of nice blocks on Main St.
