"Sweden: The Land of Wide Open Spaces" Sweden by tejanasueca

I might be a little biased (!?!), but to me, Sweden is the best country in the world. While I might not have appreciated everything this country has to offer when I grew up, now, after have lived abroad for 8 years and have spent several years studying International Affairs, it amazes me how lucky I am to call myself Swedish.

I now appreciate things that most Swedes take for granted, such as a clean nature, accessability to the outdoors, our health care system, our educational opportunities, our legislated vaction time allowing us to spend time with our families, maternity and paternity leave opportunities, and of course, that fresh Swedish air!

While some Swedes might not think that their relatively cold and dark country is all that exciting, it is exactly these things that makes Sweden magical. To me, a late summer night when it never seems to get dark is just as magical as a dark and cold winter night when people light candles in their windows. To me, standing at the cliffs by Ale Stenar (see "Off the Beaten Path) in the south of Sweden is just as magical as exploring the wilderness of the north.

I can't wait to move back to my country and once again experience and explore this magical place!

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:The nature, the diversity (yes, diversity!), and its rich history.
  • Cons:Well, it wouldn't hurt if Swedish people were a little more open...
  • In a nutshell:A magical place!

Wow... great introduction! Sweden's definitely a country I plan on visiting. I always feel like I'd feel at home there. My dad's father's family originally came from Lapland, but just the cities and the nature - looks amazing!
