If you can’t get enough of the theatre, then Esplanade (Theatres by the Bay) will satisfy your heart’s desire for culture and the arts. The Singapore Zoo, formerly known as the Singapore Zoological Garden, is one of the country’s tourist spots having 1.3 million visitors every year. What’s amazing about this zoo is its Open Zoo concept, which gives visitors an opportunity to learn more about the animals in their natural habitat. There are 290 species in the Singapore Zoo, 21% of which are threatened species. You’ll see beautiful landscapes and animals peacefully living in their homes, a sight to behold.

After spending the afternoon at the Singapore Zoo, grab dinner and head straight to Night Safari. Take the tram and enjoy the 30-minute wildlife tour. See the animals in their habitat, but don’t distract them with flashes of your camera. Make sure you don’t use flash when taking snapshots. Watch animal shows and shop for cute animal souvenirs. Your visit to Singapore won’t be complete without going to the Night Safari.

Sentosa Island: Touch Baby Sharks, Learn More About Marine Life

When I first heard of the Underwater World, I thought we would really go down several feet below sea level to witness the beauty of marine life. I was mistaken. Haha! I should not have expected too much but then again it’s not that bad. I had fun. Sentosa’s Underwater World is home to around 2,500 fishes and 250 species. Interesting. The travellator eliminates the stress by taking guests around the oceanarium. Underwater World is a must-see in Sentosa.

The musical fountain is perhaps the greatest Sentosa attraction. After touring the island and seeing the attractions, the Musical Fountain caps the night with a 30-minute display of laser lights, colours, music and fountains. It’s a must-see. Don’t leave the island without witnessing the colourful display. It’s a show for the kids and the young at heart. Appreciate the well-coordinated water movements and music. The shapes and images projected on the water are worth watching. Two thumbs up!

Things To Do: Re-live Blockbusters, ‘Meet’ the Characters

I was lucky enough to catch the Star Wars Exhibit at the Singapore Science Centre, featuring the characters of this six-movie worldwide blockbuster as well as interesting bits and pieces about them. As a Star Wars fan, I had a great time exploring every planet as well as the space shuttles that plied the galaxy that was created by George Lucas, weapons the characters used, and, yes, even the their costumes. Went to the Jedi Gym and played games testing players’ capabilities as a Jedi apprentice. Heard my voice transform into Darth Vader’s in one of the booths. Cool. The Singapore Science Centre features blockbusters depending on what’s the craze of the season. Before, it featured The Lord of the Rings trilogy and showed a presentation on how the movie came about.

Orchard Road: Shop, Wine & Dine, Take Photos

Colourful Orchard Road is a pretty interesting place to meet up with friends, have dinner with them, coffee afterwards, and take photos. A friend has just arrived in Singapore and we decided to meet up with her in Orchard. Some of the establishments are still closed in celebration of the Lunar New Year but then the place is being geared up for Chingay or the Parade of Dreams. This means the Orchard stretch is now bright and colourful and ideal for picture-taking, specially if you're the picture-taking kind of person (like me).

Things To Do: Discover the Gamer in You

The island is small. After visiting the tourist spots, what is there left to do? I recommend a casual night after work with friends and discover the "gamer" in you. Proceed to Bugis Junction arcade (basement level) and get those one dollar coins ready. Shoot some hoops, race against Mario, Luigi and the Princess or try racing on a speedy race car. Gaming relieves you of stress and worries. It gives you a chance to get in touch with the child in you and enjoy clean fun. The arcade is just like Timezone or any other arcades for that matter. Nothing extraordinary or out-of-this-world. It's just about winning, losing, thrills and good company.
