Beautiful Sydney

by ccvisit - last update: Nov 27, 2004

One of many pictures I took of the Opera House
Like in all large cosmopolitan cities, there are lots of people and buildings, but Sydney is surrounded by water, so everywhere you look, you'll see at least a glimpse or a reflection of water. Sydney has a large city attitude, but none of the arrogance. Awesome place.
Stairs to The Chair
We took one of those guided city tours in a huge tour bus where the driver very competently (and impressively) manuvered his way through heavy traffic and streets you didn't think a tour bus can go through. Driving through the Royal Botanical Gardens, we stopped at Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair, carved out of stone and looking out at a great view of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Mrs. Macquarie, as the Governor’s wife used to sit there and watch for ships coming in from England, no doubt missing home, but I’m sure the picturesque Harbour, even without the Opera House at that time, was worth taking in everyday.

There’s a set of stairs leading down to the chair and once at the bottom, you are immediately struck by the vast expanse of blue shimmering water of the Harbour.
This is just one of the views you would see from The Chair’s vantage point. To the left (not pictured) is Sydney's cityscape. Mrs. Macquarie's chair is a good place to start to take in what Sydney has to offer. Sit in the chair, pose for a picture, reflect for a second because that's about how much time you have until the next group of tourists want a turn on the Chair.

Pros:"Beautiful, great weather, even in winter."
Cons:"Large city, could be overwhelming at first. Lots of traffic congestion."

Glad you loved our gr8 city, news to me you can only go down on the scenic rail, we used to travel up after walking from 3 sisters, it was more scary when the seats were flat , now they are tilted back

Are you sure it isn't all that Aussie bad language that is turning the air blue ?!? ;-))) Good luck on the job front by the way.
