Lovely island Capri is an Italian island off the Sorrentine Peninsula, on the south side of the Gulf of Naples. It has been a resort since the time of the Roman Republic.
Features of the island are the Marina Piccola (Small Harbor), the Belvedere of Tragara, which is a high panoramic promenade lined with villas, the limestone masses called Sea Stacks that stand out of the sea (the Faraglioni), Anacapri, the Blue Grotto (Grotta Azzurra), and the ruins of the Imperial Roman villas.
Capri is in the region of Campania, Province of Naples. The City of Capri is the main centre of population on Capri. It has two adjoining harbours, Marina Piccola and Marina Grande (the main port of the island). The separate commune of Anacapri is located high on the hills to the west.
The etymology of the name Capri can be traced back to the Greeks, the first recorded colonists to populate the island. This means that "Capri" was probably not derived from the Latin "Capreae" (goats), but rather the Greek "Kapros" (wild boar). |
Unpredictable Weather - Day 1 Set off to Capri from Sorrento after a night stay at Sorrento. Took us only 25 mins by ferry to the Marina Grande. We are going to spend our two nights at Anacapri town - which is at the higher peak. The weather on our first day was very bad, so we decided to visit the Villa San Michele. It started raining at around 3pm and by evening we are experiencing thunderstorm in Capri! We were trapped and desparately seeking shelter from the rain and cold winds. I was soaked and was shivering from head to toe.... Risked the rain and seeked shelter at a restaurant. Prayed hard that the thunderstorm will be over by the time we finished the meal. Unfortunately, it didn't but luckily we have a good host. He fetched us from our trapped place back to the hotel. And guess what our Host said, Capri has not rained for the last 3 months!!!! |
Day 2 & Day 3 Day 2
Fine weather at last, we woke up early to have a cable car ride up to Monte Solaro after breakfast. After numerous photo-taking, we decided to go to Grotta Azzura but bad weather forbidded us to have a closer look at the Grotto. Went to look for the Villa Imperiale di Damecuta but was disappointed with the site. Then we went for lunch and went to the Faro where a lot of locals go there for a swim but the water is so COLD! We took some pictures there and decided to head to Capri town and Marina Piccola to have a look.
Day 3
Try our hard to the Blue Grotto once again but in vain. Spent the rest of the day walking around Anacapri town before we take our ferry at 4.30pm to Ischia. |
