Hans, Jane (CDNJane) and I spent a wonderful afternoon together. After meeting up in Horseshoe Valley, we headed for Orillia, checked out the casino there -- Casino Rama, and stopped by Lake Couchiching. After we all had an ice cream and it was only 3:30, we decided to go on to Midland and see the Martyrs' Shrine, which is absolutely beautiful and so
peaceful and serene. We then went out to eat and then headed back to Horseshoe Valley where we left our truck. All in all it was a wonderful day spent with a good friend. Thanks Jane. You're the Best.
Martyrs' Shrine has been a gathering place for all of Humanity -- Canadian born Catholics, Immigrant Catholics from the world over, non-Catholic Christians and those of other faiths, young and old alike. Throughout the years, many school children have come to MARTYRS' SHRINE on pilgrimmage with their class.

Martyrs' Shrine really worth presenting on VT and visiting as a place for pilgrimage! Thanks Lori for the virtual tour!
A beautiful church, and such an interesting history of the area.
Great page, interesting details of the Shrine and wonderful pictures. Definitely among my top favorite ones from your pages.
The style of the Martyr's shrine is amazing! That reminds me of Aberdeen in Scotland! It is sad to read the story of these martyrs.
Martyrs' Shrine is a must see for me now. Thanks for sharing.
Great pictures and descriptions, I certainly enjoyed that day out with you and Hansi.
This reminds me of the Shrine in Indianapolis...mammoth, ornate, historic, and oh, so beautiful. Your photographs are stunning.
The sky was beautiful that day, really makes your photos look great. Love the unusual angles that you shot! Great job. ps. hope you are having a great time in Europe, can't wait to hear all about it.
Lori, an interesting page on this aspect of Canadian history! It brought back dim memories of long-ago history lessons on the sad fate of these Jesuit missionairies.
The Martyrs Shrine is quite impressive. Good job!
