Hans and I visited this wonderful town of Heidelberg and its clifftop castle of Heidelberg. I do remember how disappointed we were that it was pouring rain and didn't get to see as much as we would have liked. So, I'm hoping that when we go to Karlsruhe next year (2008 ) we can again visit Heidelburg properly.

WooHoo! We finally got to visit Heidelberg properly, during a VT group tour led by our wonderful guide Jessica ( JessH) who grew up near this world famous city.
Our excursion of Heidelberg began with a walk through the Main Street - Hauptstrasse, past the beautiful Hotel Zum Ritter. Then on to Marktplatz - site of the Rathaus and Heiliggeistkirche. We then took the Funicular up to Heidelberg Castle. Our first sight was the courtyard with Friedrichsbau and Ottheinrichbau. We visited the German Pharmacy Museum and the Wine Cellar and then on to the Balcony overlooking the city.
Had dinner in the Marktplatz at Markstube.. Then had to see the "Monkey" and the Old Bridge Gate.
After a very busy day, it was time to get back on the bus to the train station and head back to Karlsruhe.
I want to take this opportunity to thank Jessica (JessH) for this great excursion. And we can't forget Bernd (Berndl) for all his help on the excursion.

Lori, excellent page with brilliant photos of Heidelberg. Although I have already visited Karlsruhe for about 5 VT meetings, I never made it to famous Heidelberg. |
