VILLAGE OF BERLIN --- HOLMES COUNTY The hamlet of BERLIN is one of the busiest in all of Holmes County. Before the Amish became the main attraction, Berlin was known for being the first village settled, in the early 1810's. These early settlers found fertile soil and an abundant water supply necessarey for plowing and planting their crops. Berlin has grown commercially. Main Street is lined with craft and specialty shops, offering everything from antiques, and furniture to dolls, quilts, pottery and folk art. Numerous bed-and-breakfast establishments have sprung up in recent years, while a variety of restaurants offer traditional Amish cooking, pies and pastries. All in all, I find Berlin and the surrounding Holmes County a very charming place to visit. |

Yaqui Mon Aug 31, 2009 17:31 UTC This area of the country has so much charm. Lovely place and excellent tips. I enjoyed the tour, thank you! | lynnehamman Sun Mar 22, 2009 08:40 UTC Great page on the 'other' Berlin. Lori! Love that Queen Anne Lace place-the Amish are famous as being great craftspeople & furniture makers. Interesting. | yumyum Wed Feb 18, 2009 20:06 UTC Didn't know that there was a Berlin in the US but it makes sense since there is a Zurich too. Berlin seems to be a lovely place especially for shopping the traditional way. | HORSCHECK Mon Feb 9, 2009 18:03 UTC Lori, fantastic page about a Berlin which I have never heard of. You know we have a Berlin here in Germany as well, don't you? *winkygrin* |
