MY KIND OF TOWN --- CHICAGO IS My Chicago page represents only a tiny portion of this large sprawling city, as Hans and I had only a brief visit. But I admit, what I saw impressed me very much ( there Kristi I said it ) because, as a rule, I usually don't care too much for big cities. Actually, I wouldn't mind visiting the Windy City again some day, preferably when it is not soooo hot and muggy. During our brief visit we had a wonderful VT meeting, attended by 12 amazing people, held at Greek Islands Restaurant, right in the heart of Chicago's Greektown. From there, Hans and I, Kristi and David, Jen, Ethan and Alex, took the El train to Chicago's downtown waterfront to take in the Venetian Night Festivities, featuring a boat parade and fireworks display. I also want to take this opportunity to thank Kristi ( Dabs ) and hubby David for a wonderful time. You guys are the best!!
Update: December 14, 2006 Hans and I made another visit to Chicago, as kat (Keida84) and her friend Kris and Robert (rmdw) were in town and we wanted to see them. We got to see even more of the Windy City this time as we spent all afternoon and evening here. Robert and Kristi were excellent tour guides. Thanks again! |
| | VT MEETING IN CHICAGO ILLINOIS A very intimate meet of 12 people came together at the Greek Islands Restaurant in Chicago, Illinois. CLOUD GATE IN MILLENIUM PARK Located in the SBC Plaza on Michigan Avenue between Madison and Monroe Sts., Anish Kapoor's CLOUD GATE is an enormous, stainless- steel sculpture, 33 feet high, 42 feet wide and 66 feet long. Affectionately called the "Jelly Bean" because of its shape, it weighs over 110 tons and is one of the world's largest outdoor sculptures. I was completely in awe of this enormous elliptical sculpture. It was just soooo cool, with the reflections of the surrounding buildings and at night-time it took on another form with the lights of the city reflecting on it. Needless to say it was a very popular attraction for locals and tourists alike. | | | Cloud Gate in Millenium Park |

Pawtuxet Wed May 28, 2008 13:14 UTC Chicago is a great town. the lion on your cover pic reminds me of the lion in Market Square in Krakow. I'm always seeing similarities between countries. A quirk of mine. :-) | JLBG Mon May 19, 2008 18:04 UTC A fscinating page! Palmer house looks gorgeous! The art Institute of Chicago seems to have even more French impressionists than Washington's National Gallery of Art! I love the Picasso! | ATXtraveler Sun May 18, 2008 21:02 UTC Soldier Field does look like an alien landed on it. Looks like you had alot of good food on this trip. | Kuznetsov_Sergey Tue Jan 15, 2008 16:11 UTC Thorough and vivid page about one of the most interesting cities of the USA. Yes it's a great surprise to see Van Gogh's "Self Portrait" in Chicago. As well as Miro and Picasso. Cloud Gate looks very impressive. Thanks Lori for sharing! |
