We spent three glorious weeks in SPAIN ( January 31 to February 21, 2004 ). We stayed in an apartment in Torremolinos which was right across the street from the Playamar Beach. While in Spain we visited many wonderful cities and towns such as Malaga, Granada,Frigiliana, Marbella, Mijas and even went on an adventure to Tangiers, Morocco. So sit back and relax and I will take you on our Spanish adventure.
I have also included some places we visited during our trip to Spain March 12 to March 27, 2001
During that vacation, we visited Ronda, Fuengirola, Estepona, Ojen, Coin, Nerja, Puerto Banus and Mijas.

Spain is situated in southwestern Europe. It occupies a great portion of the Iberian Peninsula and is bathed by the Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean and the Cantabrian Sea. Its territory also includes the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea, the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean near the African Coast and the cities of Ceuta and Melilla across the Mediterranean on Morocco's coast.
We have just returned from our fourth trip to Spain. We stayed for four weeks this time, from January 9 to February 8, 2006. We again had an apartment at the Sol Principito in Torremolinos, as I feel comfortable there and know where everything is. It's also an excellent location for transportation and you can pretty well get anywhere from here. Plus it's a short 15 minute drive from the airport.
Again, we were very busy during this trip. The highlight was our day trip to Sevilla, one of the most beautiful cities I have ever seen. We took a bus tour there.
Among the other places we visited was Cartama, a sleepy little village. We went there with Hans' brother Wim, who drove from Portugal to visit us. We also went to Mijas with Wim and again later with our Hotel Gang.
Of course we had to go to Fuengirola for its flea market, the largest on the Costa del Sol.
And thanks to our good friends Carmen ( Carmela71 ) & Stace ( Beachdog ), we got to really see Malaga, Marbella, Antequera and El Torcal.
Update: January 27 to February 18, 2009
Hans and I just returned from yet another trip to Spain. We again stayed at Apartamentos Bajondillo. We really like it there and is now "our place" for our winter getaway.
This time was different though in that we did not go on any tours - just relaxed, went for daily walks, read four books - all in all very enjoyable.
We did get to see our friends, Carmen, Stace and Sandra (Sunday, Feb. 1), as Hans and I took the bus to Marbella and spent the afternoon with our dear friends.
We did do the walk to Benalmadena one sunny afternoon. Spent the whole time walking, snooping in shope, having an ice-cream sundae. The weather was so nice, a lot of the locals were out and about too. And as is our custom, we visited Mijas for the day.
A nice surprise was that Hans' sister Nel and hubby Jean came to Torremolinos for a week and stayed at Bajondillo too. We were able to get them a room 3 doors down from ours. It was sooo nice to be able to spend some time with them.
Update: February 3 to 24, 2010
Our eighth visit to Spain.
We mostly stayed and relaxed in Torremolinos. The weather this year was not the greatest - many days of pouring rain. But on the plus side, we made many more new friends at Bajondillo, as we particiapated more in the activities offered there. And spent many an evening in the lounge area, just sitting and chatting.
We again visited Carmen and Stace. We took the bus to Marbella. Spent the afternoon at a Flea Market in Manilva and then lunch and visit to the Andalucian white village of Casares.
Update: January 27 to Feb.24, 2011
Our ninth visit to Spain
Stayed for a month this time and the weather was absolutely beautiful most of the time there. The highlight of this visit was a small VT meeting to celebrate the Barney Awards. We had the use of the small room beside the library and quite a few members attended and most stayed at the Bajondillo which was nice.
Also, we made many more new friends at the hotel.
Update: February 8 to 29, 2012
Our tenth visit to Spain
As we went to the Philippines in January, we decided to only go to Torremolinos for three weeks. Highlights of this visit was a Hotel" Group Bus Tour to Antequera and Periana where we had lunch at Cantueso Restaurant, overlooking the mountains. Also went to Marbella to visit Carmen, Stace and Sandra. We made a nice walk to the beach and to Old Town.
- Pros:Wonderful weather and friendly people everywhere you go
- Cons:Didn't want to go home

I love your pics of Spain most esp. of Casares, the terra-cotta roofed white buildings are lovely indeed! The Spanish architectural designs (Cordoba, Benalmadena, etc) are amazing...This country is a definite addition to my ever-growing (yet unfulfilled) travel wish list :)
I loved Andalucia from the first time I visited. As I was staying with parents, and mother had MS, I didn't get much chance to go far afield, so after seeing your pages,I feel better, but it awoke the desire to return.
WOW! So many great Spain Tips. I will return! Off to Spain in just a couple of weeks now, so your information is important to me. Thanks!
You keep going back to Spain for good reason.
Superb page! You have travelled widely in Spain. Of particular interest to us are Cordoba, Costa Blanca, Ronda, Malaga and Serville. Thanks for sharing. ~ho & pang
Excellent tips and photos. I was especially impressed by the photos of the Tajo gorge! You have plenty of almost off the beaten path places. Thanks for sharing! Feb 09: excellent updates!

Lori, fabulous overview of your trips to Spain. Although I have been to quite a few places in this area, I must admit that I have never heard of Torremolinos. It looks like a lovely place.
Indeed Mijas , Frigiliana and all of them are magical ! I don't have my bull picture :-(
You obviously share my passion for Spain. Great tips and photos. Ellsasha.
