"LOVELY SEASIDE TOWN OF NAFPLIO" Nafplio by LoriPori
Nafplio Travel Guide: 230 reviews and 701 photos
A lovely seaside town, with its picturesque harbour, NAFPLIO is on the Peloponnese Peninsula and dominated by three citadels - Palamidi Fortress, the Akronafplia Fortress and Bourtzi Fortress. Located in the Prefecture of Argolida and 145 km ( 90 miles ) southwest of Athens. For several years after the Greek War of Independence ( 1821 to 1828 ) Nafplio was Greece's first Capital.
I was absolutely in awe of this lovely town, with its elegant Venetian homes and neoclassical civic buildings. It so reminded me of the Spanish town of Marbella, with its cobbled streets and balconies overflowing with vines of bouganvillia. As an added bonus, Hans and I got to meet Anna ( Anpe ) and Theodosia (Siaki68), two lovely ladies who call Nafplio their home town.
Come along with me and share my experience and perhaps you will fall in love with NAFPLIO too.
- Pros:Such a pretty town on the Harbour. Loved it here.

i just had dinner at the nafplios taverna 1 hour ago :O)
Nauplie was the last place on our tour of the Peloponnesus. Had a lot of charm in 1977; it seems that charm was preserved.
The bougainvillea looks awesome - excellent shot! And yes, this is a stroller's paradise...glad you and hasi enjoyed Greece a lot. Norman :)
Fine photos in your tips and travelogues! I had forgotten (if I ever knew) that Nafplio was Greece's first Capital.
What a lovely town and intro photo as well!
What a lovely Nafplio HP photo Lori! Wonderful page!

Biggest problem is to resist those handmade carpets ;-)
Love the Venetian homes, cobbled streets & balconies overflowing with vines of bouganvillia. It's really different from Fira & Oia. Thanks for sharing !
