Getting TO/AROUND: The UNDERGROUND or the TUBE, is the best way to get around London --- and it is always an adventure. Pick up a tube map at any station. Each underground line has a different name and colour which makes it easy for you to follow your route.
The TUBE covers 6 Zones and carries 3 million commuters daily -- Imagine that!!!
You must buy the right ticket for your destination before you begin your journey or you will be liable to a 10 pound Penalty. The price of your ticket depends on how many Zones you travel through. Travel Cards offer the best value. Hans bought one "Off-Peak" card for 4.90 pounds.
    Try to avoid the busiest times between 8:00 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Public Buses: BRING BACK THE ROUTEMASTER

Getting TO/AROUND: First of all, let me point out that the Brits drive on the wrong side of the road. The correct side ole chaps is to drive on the right. I think it is terribly inhospitable to expect we tourists to have to look right when crossing a road. It's just not normal. Blimey!
Aaaaand!! What's happened to all the old Double-Decker Buses. Now all you see are these new fandangled things, a poor imitation of the old beloved Red Double-Decker ROUTEMASTERS on which you hopped on and held on for dear life. Now that was a bus!
Though most prefer to take the tube, Buses have the advantage of being able to look around as you travel.

    Taxis: LONDON'S BLACK TAXIS

Getting TO/AROUND: Piece of cake! It's easy to hail one of LONDON'S BLACK TAXIS. Just look for a taxi that has it's "TAXI" sign lit, indicating that it is available and stick out your hand and flag it down.
But as you can see in this accompanying picture, London's famous black Taxis now come in a myriad of colours --- even baby blue.
All fares are metered and all drivers are registered and licensed, so no need to worry about being "ripped off".

Wonderful London page with superb photographs! London is one of our favourite cities to visit in Europe. We had missed Millenium Bridge and London Aquarium. We hope to visit them in our next trip to London. ~ho & pang

Lori, fabulous page about England's busy capital. Oh well, I also always enjoyed taking the Routemaster buses in London. Greetings from Germany to Canada.
