LORIPORI' S SEVILLA

BUS TOUR OF SEVILLA

Plaza de Espana
Wednesday January 25, 2006
Located in the southwest region of Spain, on the Guadalquivir River , SEVILLE is the fourth largest city in Spain. It is the commercial and industrial center of the region of Andalusia. Its pleasant climate and historical landmarks make it one of Spain's most popular tourist attractions.
With its narrow, winding streets and white-washed houses with their wrought-iron balconies, all contribute to Sevilla's charm.
Places to visit include: The Cathedral and its Giralda Tower, The Plaza de Espana, Alcazar and the Golden Tower, all of which were included in our Bus tour.
Hans and I thoroughly enjoyed this tour. There was so much MORE to see, but they can only fit so much into one day. I have documented what we did on the tour in my "Things to Do" Tips section. Enjoy!
The Cathedral of Seville

THE CATHEDRAL OF SEVILLE

One of the biggest Cathedrals in the world is THE CATHEDRAL OF SEVILLE. Actually its the third largest Christian Cathedral after St. Peter's in the Vatican and St. Paul's in London. It was HUGE. I was just blown away at how enormous it was. Its total building surface is 23,500 square metres.
Its construction, in the Gothic style, was begun in 1402 and took more than a hundred years to build.
In the Cathedral are many great paintings and a monument to Christopher Columbus.

TORRE DEL ORO or GOLDEN TOWER

Built by the Moors between 1221 and 1222, the TORRE DEL ORO or Golden Tower, was once a part of the city wall and was used as a watchtower. It is quite an impressive structure with its 12 - sided tower sitting on the edge of the Guadalquivir River. The Boat tour, begins near this location. There is also a small Maritime museum inside.

Excellent page. Sevilla looks like a wonderful city with so much great architecture. Like you, I especially liked the tiled benches and the Azulejos. I think I'd be very tempted to take the boat trip.
