LARGEST PROVINCE OF THE NETHERLANDS

Gelderland is the largest Province of the Netherlands. The Province is centrally located and is bounded in the northeast by Overijssel, in the east by North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, in the south by Limburg and Noord-Brabant, in the extreme southwest by South Holland, in the west by the Province of Utrecht and in the northwest by the Veluwemeer. The capital is Arnhem.

Very informative page. Interesting to find a road that goes in and out of a country. Did they have to show their passports every time they crossed the border?:)

Winding borders can be dangerous: during WWII, refugees trying to escape France succeeded reaching Switzerland across the woods, walked straight in front of them and were caught by the Nazi when they found themselves again in France a little further. Sad!
