    • One of the more outstanding features of Sun City was the VALLEY OF THE WAVES. Before I had ever seen or heard of Wave Pools, here was one in the middle of South Africa. The amazing thing is the whole beach area was created --- yes --a fake beach.

    • Hans checked out the CASINO while I did some snooping around the complex. He said there were plenty of slot machines that mostly just took your money. What else is new!

    • There's more to the Lost City than the Palace. It also has a wave pool the ROARING LAGOON, a water slide the TEMPLE OF COURAGE and a smoke-belching bridge, the BRIDGE OF TIME.

    • A nice place to relax and just people watch is the MONKEY SPRING PLAZA. .The Plaza honours the group of Monkeys that supposedly saved ancient tribes from starvation during a terrible drought.

    • Sun City resort got its start in the 1970's and it's been expanding ever since. The Lost City was opened in 1992, built on a hillside and looking down on the rest of the complex.
    A smoke-belching bridge, The BRIDGE OF TIME is guarded by Elephants and leads to the Hall of Treasures.

    • Although Hans and I enjoyed our day at Sun City, you really can't take it seriously. It's certainly a popular draw with locals and foreign visitors, but in my opinion it doesn't hold a candle to the real South Africa, like the Natal coast, the wonderful Game Reserves, like Hluhleuwe and Mkuzi that we had the privilege of experiencing. These are the real jewels of South African tourism.

     We last visited Sun City in the early 80's before it went over- the -top. Its awful now-so fake. Not my scene at all. Coming from Cape Town- I know where the real beauty of SA is. Good tips, Lori. Honest tips.

     Looks interesting. I met a family from S. Africa in Phuket and the Patriarch suggested Sun City in any itinerary there.
