♫ SUR LE PONT D'AVIGNON ♫ Hans, Wim and I visited AVIGNON and ORANGE September 25, 2000. We found both places to be enchanting and rich in history. AVIGNON located in Provence-Alpes-Cote D'Azur, is a charming city in the southeastern part of France on the Rhone River. It is a very ancient city and was part of the Roman Empire more than two thousand years ago. |
| | ORANGE Orange has a well-preserved Roman Theatre, with a prominant statue of Augustus, that is still used for concerts during the summer festival. |

lynnehamman Thu May 28, 2009 14:21 UTC Interesting tip about former residence of Popes! I had now idea about this. Thanks for that info. Avignon looks interesting- the LE PONT D'AVIGNON is in good shape-even after all these years. Nice pictures too, Lori. | HORSCHECK Mon Feb 16, 2009 22:07 UTC Lori, fabulous little page about this famous French town. I must admit that I haven't explored much of France yet. | Nemorino Wed Aug 13, 2008 22:00 UTC Your tips and photos bring back nice memories of my visits to Avignon and Orange on a bicycle tour in May 1963. | SLLiew Tue Mar 4, 2008 21:09 UTC Nice photo - a bridge to nowhere :) |
