Hans, Wim and I visited AVIGNON and ORANGE September 25, 2000. We found both places to be enchanting and rich in history.
AVIGNON located in Provence-Alpes-Cote D'Azur, is a charming city in the southeastern part of France on the Rhone River. It is a very ancient city and was part of the Roman Empire more than two thousand years ago.

Orange Theatre

Orange has a well-preserved Roman Theatre, with a prominant statue of Augustus, that is still used for concerts during the summer festival.

Loved your pictures and descriptions of the gorgeous architecture. Le Pont d'Avignon must be a great place to visit with the wonderful view it offers.

Avignon is certainly a great tourist destination with such great attractions as the Opera House, Le Pont and the Palace of the Popes. Theatre in Orange is another wonderful attraction. Thanks for sharing. ~ho & pang

Interesting tip about former residence of Popes! I had now idea about this.Thanks for that info. Avignon looks interesting- the LE PONT D'AVIGNON is in good shape-even after all these years. Nice pictures too, Lori.

Avignon has long been on my wish list but I wasn't aware of the attractions in nearby Orange - that theatre looks great!
