PARC NATUREL REGIONAL DE CAMARGUE

September, 2000
After visiting the wonderful city of Arles, we made our way south towards Saintes-Marie-de-la-Mer and the Mediterranean Sea. Hans' brother Wim, said we must see PARC NATUREL REGIONAL DE CAMARGUE a unique wetlands area of significant importance, situated on the Rhone Delta, where the Rhone meets the Mediterranean Sea.
This area is home to wild white horses and the wetlands are filled with birds, especially flamingos. Also the area has numerous ranches or manades. I found it quite fascinating and want to share my experience with you. Enjoy!

Ive heard good things about this area. Seeing that many flamingos at once would be a special treat indeed:) Nice explanation of how they get so pink

We too saw the flocks of flamingoes in the Camargue - a real treat in August. Interestingly we also saw some - though not so many in Sicily in December 2009. Not all of them fly south for the winter! Cheers, Mike

La Camarque sounds like a great place to go birdwatching. Those pink flamingoes look awesome and don't seem to be afraid of people.

I've always wanted to go birdwatching in the Camargue. Besides flamingos, there are many rare and beautiful birds there.
