General Tips: THE ROMAN TEMPLE
Tip Rating: |
Favorite Thing: This Roman Temple has been known as the MAISON CARREE, since the sixteenth century. In old French, any rectangle with four corners was referred to as a "carree'". The only completely preserved Roman temple, the Maison Carree has harmonious proportions, elegant slender columns with Corinthean capitals and architectural decoration of great finesse. In a raised position on a high base, it dominated the forum of the Roman town. This large square, forming the centre of public life, was enclosed by a portico, traces of which remain in the form of a few bases of columns visible at the site. Inside is an exhibition on the history of the Temple.

Saint-Paul Church is located at Gard (30) in Nimes which is in the province of Languedoc-Roussillon. Update: Thanks to Jean-Louis ( JLBG ), I was finally able to put a name to this beautiful church. Thank you so much.
