Located at the edge of the Saone, TOURNUS is in the province of Bourgogne.
On Wednesday September 27, 2000 Hans, Wim and I stopped in Tournus on our way to Hans' sister in Lanty, not too far from here. We found the town enchanting and rich in history. The main attraction is the Abbaye Saint Philibert.
I also included with Tournus, the town of Belleville, where we stayed overnight.
Here I am exploring and enjoying the medieval town of Tournus. It really was like stepping back in time.
The most significant structure in the town of Tournus is definitely the ABBAYE SAINT PHILIBERT. The present abbey was built mainly in the XIth century.

What a lovely town! Tournus has lots to offer. Enjoy such historical places. Nice page!
From the map, I'm sure I must have passed through Tournus a few times, but I don't think I've ever stopped there. It looks really medieval and interesting.
Hi Lori...still waiting for surgeon so I looked at your Tournus page during this break - also love buying religious icons and would love to see that shop...nice pages...Norman :)

I've never heard of this town before but then I haven't seen much of France. Thanks for the introduction.
What a wonderful typical medieval Burgundian town! Thanks Lori for sharing!
I loved Tournus too! We had a great B&B there. Thanks for birthday wishes!
This is my favourite part of France, good food, good wine and beautiful , small towns. I enjoyed reading your page.
Thanks Lori for your comment on my Rompin Page.
Tournus is a perfect example for the kind of places I love to visit. I'll add it to my wish list.
