  • We discovered that we could go swimming in a lake in the mountains. We needed a relaxing day, so we went to the PIBURGER SEE. What a treat! You probably can imagine the water was pretty cold, but actually the temperature of the water can reach 24 degrees.

  • The bridge of the PONT DE LA CAILLE or Pont Charles-Albert, is located about 20 kilometres north of Annecy on the RN 201. This suspension bridge, built in 1839, is 192 metres in length and is one of the older bridges of this type. For one century it was the only bridge to cross the gorge and was in use until 1939.
Today, it is still in use as a footbridge. There are wonderful views of both the French Alps and the Usses River and Valley.
We came across this bridge in our travels through Europe in 1986 and for all this time, I did not know the identity of it. But now, thanks to JLBG / Jean-Louis who recognized it and told me what it was, I am able to finally put a name to it. Thanks so much Jean-Louis.

Hi Lori- I understand the nostalgia! I also miss having trips as a family since our two have 'grown up'!We still now & then have a trip with them, furtunately. Its not quite the same now.

Nice mementos of your big European adventure from 22 years ago. Yes, Europe used to have lots of funny little currencies back then.
