The proof that Holland is not entirely flat

Magnificent Caves

I refer to the Sint Pietersberg, which is an area near Maastricht. I believe it is the most interesting site there. I tried to find it in the travel map but to no avail. That's why I fill it in the Maastricht page.

You can just take bus number 4 from the Maastricht station (be careful to get off at the corect stop or u may end up back in the station as me and my friends).

There are to entrance to the caves, I only get to see the one on the North. to go there, after you got off the bus, go to the left, and do not ascend the path to the right, which goes to the wildlife, which is also quite interesting but u may get lost like we did. The entrance plus a tour (only in Ducth) costs only 3.50 euros. but it was worth it. The inside of the cavern was cold and humid, therefore, if u wanna make pics, u gotta hold ur breath so as not to ruin the pics. The guide always brings at least three flashlights and a couple of lanterns. He said that years before, there was someone who got lost and ran out of light down there. He was found dead a couple of years later. As preventive measure, the VVV (tourist office) will send someone to look for the travelers if they don't come back in an hour.

As we explored the caves, the guide told us the story of the beautiful paintings on the walls and the objects, such as the 'iglo' which served as an open public toilet at the time of war. It was too bad that we could only stay for an hour as there are so many more interesting stories within the caves' walls.
