"D Place of Freedom" l-e-z-ah's Profile
d name's Elisia.... I'm a Tourism and Leisure management student in Haarlem, Netherlands- been living here for 3 years....
I originally come from Balikpapan, Indonesia but spent most of my life in Jakarta.... when I was little, my parents used to take me travelling a lot, usually across Java island and Bali..... now, I do my travelling mostly with friends since my parents still live in Indonesia
Aside from travelling, I also enjoy swimming, reading (Arthur Golden's Memoirs of a Geisha, Harry Potter books n Dean Koontz's novels r my fave), partying (if d music is right), and watching movies (my faves includes: X Men 2, Dead Poet Society, Spiderman 1 & 2, and all Lord of d Ring trilogy)...... I also like listening to music.... any kind of music... not really choosy but I like rock, r&b, n alternative most (LOVE Linkin Park)... my fave songs r still: Soul Asylum's Runaway Train, and Everlast's Wonderful.... maybe coz I can relate to d lyrics and I like d beat...... don't have any idol though..............
I'm not really good at describing myself.... if I have 2 use one word, it'll be: weird......... if u wanna know more about me, Jakarta, Haarlem, or Amsterdam, feel free to email me or something
btw, I'm d far right one from d left in d pic
another btw, i don't have a camera (I always broke mine) so d pictures r limited.... personally, i like taking pics of buildings and panoramic view without any object, but my friends like themselevs in d pic as well, and since it's their camera, i have no say about it..........
'there's no place of freedom anywhere... d place of freedom is a place made by ur own hands'
it's d quote of my fave dorama (Japanese series), Majo No Jouken (Witch's Love)..... I think it really fits my way of thinking right now... I've looked for d place of freedom my whole life, a place where I belong, where I can be who I am and not just a shadow of anyone or anything.... however, after a long search and no avail, I began to realize that I don't have to look any further, d answer is right in front of me, I already belong.... it doesn't matter where I am, as long as I have d courage to fight for what I want and for d people I love, then I'm home..........
maybe it sounds corny, but it's really how I feel and hopefully lots of people feel the same way...........
The country itself is great... lots of delicious foos, interesting diversed culture, beautiful panoramic view.... However, due to the political instability and the social problems, it's quite dangerous to go there at this moment. Of course, there are still a lot of islands and places to go to, which are still safe....
One thing you have to keep in mind when you visit the country is not to ignore the superstitions and the people's belief, especially the ones concerning the spirits and stuff.... you really should respect them and do the customary rituals....
Maybe next year, if I graduate already, I will go back. And this time, I will definitely explore everything... it really is true what they say: ' absence make d heart grow fonder'
I've been here for 3 years already... I used to live in a student hostel, which was cool but now I'm renting a room near my school with friends.... it beats living alone coz at least I have people to go home to... not much of a privacy though
I consider this city as a great place to live.... it's quiet and has d perfect location (20 minutes from Amsterdam by train, 5 minutes from Zandvoort). it's also easy to get around d city, even by foot, which I do a lot. It has lots of historical buildings (such as d hofjes and d churches buildings)....... be sure to check it out when u visit Holland!!!!!!!
This city is like my second home now.... I know my way around here better than Jakarta (becoz I usually go around here by foot instead of just riding in a car)
I usually visit d China town and d Kalverstraat.... depends on with whom I go there.... I am also fond of d leidseplein and museumplein....
though it's too crowded for me to live in, nonetheless, it's a great city.... in d summer, it's really nice to have a drink in d cafes along d canal... at night, check out d clubs and bars, they relly rocks!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've done more travelling in d past 3 years than my first 19....
until now, my fave city is Barcelona ( I could practice my oral Spanish there)... I just LOVE Sagrada Familia and other works of Gaudi.... even though I was afraid of heights, I still manage to get almost to d top (I'm so proud of it)....... d sangria and great clubs were an added bonus.... hope I can go there again
I also like London and Paris, but they r so typical European big cities... another fave is Berlin coz my sis' boyfriend lives there and his mom can cook really good.... did I say good??? I mean FANTASTIC!!!!!! so, everytime I go there, I can have accomodation n food 4 free... plus, he always take us bowling (he pays).... my score sucks though, but it's getting better.... however, my german is so limited (I can only say sh*t, I know nothing, and some other words.... if I communicate with his mother, I have 2 consult 2 d dictionary)
I like travelling alone as much as with groups.... of course, it more fun if u go with ur friends but going alone also has its advantages......
Since I was stuck in Holland d whole summer, I decided to go on a round trip inside d country with some friends..... I went to Zeeland, which was great, especially coz there were some festivals going on...... and d beach was awesome, unfortunately we couldn't sunbathe becoz we didn't have time.....
I also went 2 Dolphinarium, which was ok.... rather disappointing coz d facilities wasn't that great.... but it was a good experience.....
and last but not least, we went 2 Efteling, which is a theme park.... though I hate heights, I still tried some roller coaster kind of attractions.... closed my eyes d whole time though... that's why I didn't purchase any photo, I looked awful in all of them.... I'll take water attractions anytime... though I was wet to my pants, it was a lot of fun........
I just start a new year in my school... my last one... i thought about bullying d new kids and stuff but could restrain myself :P ... i'm a tutor for d freshman and so far it's been really cool.....
I'm gonna go to Milton-Keynes again in October.... there's a cool event: check out www.collectormania.com ... have 2 skip school though.. just found out that my exam is rescheduled!!!!!!! AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
One last news: I just bought a digital camera... finally!!!!!!!!!!!! gonna take lots n lots of pics once i buy a memory card.... too bad i'm broke already :(
