The Life and Times of the Vietnam Edbrookes A Little Bit About Me Living in Asia for over 24 years now, been to most places around. Lived in Hong Kong for nine years taking me all over southern China and Phillapines for business. Then moved over to Hanoi for 6 years and now in Saigon (been here eight years now). Been just about everywhere in Vietnam, except Phu Quoc, not sure why....next on the list. Now we have a new addition to the family, Theo Than was born on the 10th July to join his older brother Tom Lām. |

| | The knowledge My 18 year old nephew came out for a visit last year, first time in Asia for him. It was his 18th birthday present from Uncle who had never sent anything for most of his life. Amazing time for him (and me) did most of the torist stuff here and went over to Phnom Penh for a bit more, lots of fun and a big eye opener for Jake. Reminded me a bit of my self 21 years ago when I moved to Asia. |
S21 Tuol Sleng, not much you can say about this place, it's somewhere everyone should go. For me it was odd as I had first heard about it from Vietnamese friends who were part of the first group to get to Phnom Penh in 1979, their stories echoed around the walls.
| | Phan Thiet Viet style One a my favourite places when I'm in Mui Ne, just about 1km further on from the dunes is a beach, not the cleanest beach by far. This is where the locals go who can't afford MN hotels, lots of tents and rooms (without amenities like bathrooms) for rent cheap. We go there for the seafood, rent a table then walk about the sellers with bowls of live seafood, order what you want, they cook it and bring to the table in plastic bags, very cheap if you bargain right (my wife is Vietnamese so have no trouble with that). Great place to get into coversations with locals, most are factory workers or minor officials that don't get much chance to meet foreigners and use their English. Last time was there met an old chap who worked for the old government here and his nephew who is a sailor based in the spratlies. check out phan thiet page |
The second best thing The best thing about living and traveling in Asia........the food, just about any cuisine imaginable is just around the corner. | | | Hong, my sister-in-law tucking into korean |

| | The best thing Me and Hanh have know each other since I moved down to Saigon, we started our own company together a few years back and finally got married in 2006. Had a great reception, in return for Hanh letting me have have my mates bands play (Anarchy in the UK went down well with the relatives), I did the early morning traditional bit. There is no way a westerner can look cool in an Ao Dai! |
Saigon Visitors This is proof that Vietnam is a great place to visit for anyone. Parents, who are now in their mid seventies, came out for the sixth time. Stayed 3 weeks over the holidays, loved walking the parks, the food and especially spending time with my family here.
Travel plans for me this year? Work trips around the region Christmas with family in UK to introduce our new son
