Big Wayne's new place, as always the food here is wonderful. Small and cozy sort of mediteranean food, Wayne has built up a dedicated following of expats in town. If he has rabbit on the menu you should try it.

First went here 12 years ago, before the air cons were put in, been taking people here ever since they put a drop of what they said was beetle semen in there to "help me through the night" (I was with me girlfriend). White fish cooked on charcoal burner in saffron oil and lots of greens, eaten with cold rice noodles and shrimp paste. I know lots of people literally turn their noses up at shrimp paste but once you get past the smell it tatses wonderfull.

Favorite Dish: There is only one.....Cha Ca

This used to be known as Jaccs and can fit in the restaurant and nightlife tips. Owned by the famous Al Frescos, this is one of the expat hang outs, big long bar with great pool table. Food is what I would call upmarket Aussie style, not the cheapest in town but good value. The manager is Jim, a maori guy, who is a world class chef (ex press club) so you can expect the best.

There is also one in Saigon on Dong Khoi

This restaurant is owned by the first Vietnamese person I met here (apart from the taxi driver from airport) Mr Tik, who also owns the melody hotel where i first lived 12 years ago. The restaurant is in a beautifully renovated colonial villa serving upscale (but not expensive) contempory Vietnamese fair. My last visit was with my parents some time back and the meal was top notch, as was the service.

Bobby Chin Restaurant: Wasabi Mashed Potatoe

A sorry note to this one, Bobby closed shop early Feb 2009 (due to rent hike). Will keep an eye on where he will reapear

Give this place a thumbs up for cuisine, dam fine very up market dining. Bobbies place is probably the slickest restaurant in town, decor alone makes it stand out. If the chap himself is around (and you will will know he's there) have a chat, that is an experience in itself. If you want top splash out when your there, have amazing food, this is definately the place.

If you do get served wasabi mashed potatoes, mention my name, it will be fun.

    Tandoor: By far the best

This is by far the best Indian restaurant in Vietnam (in my opinion). I lived on their delivery for years when I lived in Hanoi, each time I go there I pop in, Ravi the owner prides himself on the quality and authenticity of the food. It's right in the heart of the old quarter.

My VN partners up in Hanoi always take me here, good standard Vietnamese menu, so all the Hanoi favourites are here, and a couple of southern dishes thrown in for good measure. The bit I like is the garden, if not too busy take an outside table.
