Huge microbrewery serving Czech style beer Hoavener reasonable priced starting at 14,000vnd, this place is packed with mainly locals percentage wise (as I said it's huge). Pretty large well priced menu helps soak up the beer.

This place recently opened and will deffinately reccomend it. The owner of Au Parc (great deli joint near cathedral) just opened this, amazing location right oposite the Hyatt on Hai Bai trung, in a small courtyard that used to be part of the opium refinery. Food is european stuff and very good, sit outside on the terrace and enjoy being outdoors in the heart of the city.
Favorite Dish: Crab cakes mmmmmmm

This new edition to Saigon is one of the first upmarket restaurant/bar concepts to arrive. Located on Dong Du opposite the Shereton. Food is spectacular, breakfast, lunch and dinner with a great wine selection and imported beers. Bit on the pricey side but worth it.
Address: 41 Dong Du, D1
Comparison: more expensive than average
Price: US$31-40

This is a long standing favorite, some of the best food in town, well worth the price. Used to eat in the first one in Hong Kong many years ago, and the one here is just as good. Run by Alexander and his wife Thy, recently moved but somehow they have managed to recreate the venue perfectly and I personally have had some of the best european meals I've had in this country.

Great restaurant and wine bar, downstairs is popular at lunch especially for the "Black Box" which is a mystery 3 course meal, so far it's been delicious every time. The long bar is a great after work drinking spot and upstairs is your fine dinning option.
Favorite Dish: The BLACK BOX, i.e. everything

Eating a big bowl of melted cheese in the Saigon heat is not everyones cup of tea, but with the help of an air con or two this is another of my favourites here. Tell restaurant, and pub next door, is probably the best german place in town, run by the imfamous Thilo, who makes sure that the food is genuine. Loaclly brewed german beer is on draught too to was down the sausages.
2007 update, can't work out how to delete tips, but Tell closed this year, so if you are craving a huge bowl of melted cheese you'll have to go to Phnom Penh (the one there is still open)

Another option if you find yourself in district 2, opened by Thy and Alexander Egert famed for Vascos and Camargue. Great liitle international joint, but most go there for the pizzas, great with one of the salads on the side.
Favorite Dish: Pizza, of course

This rooftop terrace Vietnamese BBQ joint is probably my favorite, opens at 5pm is usually very busy. With great selection of BBQ dishes, cooked on a burner on your table, great seafood and beef with cheese is delicious. And most importantly the beer is cold, something often missing at these sort of places........beer with ice? mmmmmmm not for me

This makes a great change from the Indian restaurants (which are very good mind you) in town. Recently opened serves authentic Nepalese cuisine, run by an American Vietnamese and his Nepalese wife and family, well worth a try.
