Kyrenia is a staggering beautiful town on the North Coast of Cyprus. It also a more Mediterranian feel than any other part of the island. Kyrenia is decidely quaint, and has none of the hustle and bustle or larger towns or cities. You won't find a traffic-jam here!
The attached picture shows me standing on top of Kyrenia Castle with the classic view down into the harbour. The harbour makes for a great walk around, smelling the fresh food being prepared and looking in at the little souvenir shops. At the far end of the harbour you often find fishermen trying their luck. The pace of life here is really slow and it is a very relaxing place to visit.
Kyrenia is also the home to one of the oldest known shipwrecks in the world. This shipwreck is preserved within the castle and can be visited for a charge.
- Pros:Beautiful little fishing village in Cyprus
- Cons:May be too quiet for some, argumentative women!
- In a nutshell:The most beautiful place in Cyprus

St. Andrews welcomes all religions. Our Methodist friends were made most welcome at Easter. We visited and were pleasantly surprised at this quaint little building which is just a few steps from the main car park.
I've recently returned from Kyrenia and I think you'd notice a big difference in the pace of life and the amount of building going on. It's still very nice - just busier. Mike
I really appreciate all the historic information and explanations about the present situation. Some absolutely fantasitic photographs, and, as usual, your dialogue is intelligent, often humorous, and always interesting.
Kyrenia is definitely a scenic looking little spot! Great tips and pics Andy. A stroll along the harbourfront with a view toward a relaxing outdoor meal sounds very appealing! Interesting info on the old buildings and shipwrecks too!
Why would you think the thought of human shish kabobs would ruin someone's appetite? Might have even been a delicacy!
A great insight into Kyrenia. I will get over the border and visit some day.
Great little page Andy. Kyrenia has all the magic ingredients -- Harbour -- Boats -- a Castle.
Such an interesting read Andy, especially about Kyrenia Castle. Bellapais looks a beautiful little place, great page! (~_~)
Great page with very interesting tips and beautiful pictures!
Great pages! Keep em coming!
