Valentino Rossi is quaking in his boots - Segovia

A bit inadequate?

If you were in the Police force, and this was your official vehicle, then you might assume that you would have a bit of a chip on your shoulder, and that you may be trying to get one up on people!

Well in a way, you might well be right. This deluxe scooter was parked in the central square when I first saw it. It turned out to belong to the local traffic warden, who was busy trying to get any car he could see (I later saw him down at the Alcazar doing the same thing there).

I wonder if the wonderful company transport compensates for the job of being a traffic warden???

Segovian Taxi in front of the Alcazar - Segovia

Segovian Taxi in front of the Alcazar

Taxi

Taxis suffer from the same problem that other motor vehicles face in that large parts of the old town is now pedestrianised. They do benefit in that you don't need to worry about finding a parking space.

You can of course use one to take you out to the vantage points that give great views of the city. However I can imagine that this would not be cheap.

Spanish taxi drivers also have a bit of a reputation about short changing foreigners who are not always familiar with the coins (the Euro may help to stop this!). Try and make sure you pay with the right money and not with a large denomination note.

Segovian Car - Segovia

Segovian Car

Car is the best way to go

A car really is the best way to go to Segovia. The main reason for this is that there are some great lookout points a little bit away from the city, and it is not easy to get to these using public transport.

Parking can be a bit of a problem, and it can be quite awkward to find a space. There is a pay car park that is quite central and is quite well sign posted.

Be careful where you park as the Police seem quite judicious when it comes to issuing tickets, I have seen them in action quite a few times. They don't mess about.

Spain used to issue car number plates based on the province that the car was registered in. This car has the SG prefix indicating Segovia.

Segovia Bus with Aquaduct reflection in the window - Segovia

Segovia Bus with Aquaduct reflection in the window

Bus

It's possible to get to Segovia and to an extent around Segovia by bus. Quite a bit of Segovia is pedestrianised these days, so it is easier to walk a lot of the time as it can involve quite a long roundabout journey to go to some places by a vehicle.

This picture was taken just in front of the Aquaduct, you can even see the reflection of the Aquaduct in the bus window.

A good place to get of to explore the town is just in front of the Aquaduct. This is good for a few reasosn, one it is a very obvious landmark to get off at if you don't know the town, and two it is a good starting point to explore from.
