Parque Nacional del Teide Travel Guide: 50 reviews and 83 photos

Mount Teide is a big volcano on Tenerife, which you can see in this picture. Tenerife does not actually mean anything at all in Spanih, but the name is actually much older than the Spanish occupation of the island, and is a word from the Guanche language. The Guanches were the original inhabitants of Tenerife, although they no longer exist. In Guanche, Tenerife means White Mountain, so you can see that Mount Teide has been around for a long long time.

Teide National Park is a free park to visit, although it takes a bit of getting too as most of it is at about 2.5 kilometres above sea level and the peak is 3.7 kms. As most people stay the the beach (i.e. sea level!), there is quite a drive to get there! Being a volcanic park, expect to see lots of rocks in these tips...

Cablecar is the best way to visit the very peak, but you have a long way to drive to get tto the cablecar station first...

Your fine photographs show the stunning views. Wonderful transportation and warnings tips. I love the Paradors in Spain. We stayed at them often, and they were not overly expensive. Comprehensive, interesting, and well written.

I really enjoyed this page. What incredible views from Mount Tiede, especially "El Hierro". 11704 feet up -- Awesome. Perhaps that's where the expression "your head in the clouds" came from. BTW Do you always carry a GPS around?

Fantastic trip to 3,700 m above sea level - I do hope not to be sick so high... Very interesting off the beaten path tips as well.

Since those "painted" rocks are green, not blue, they should be called "verdelejos". I expect, on a clear day from Mount Teide, you could see Roxboro, North Carolina from there.

Hi Andy, Just because the only shoes I have are suitable for sidewalks doesn't mean I can't appreciate a good hike up a volcano...on VT anyway ;-) Interesting that all your "Off the Beaten Track" tips were in the more "built" areas...Tom

Problems with the ears , so I'll would skip going up...you changed a lot about the vision I had on this island. From mass tourist destination to a maybe for a vacation. :-) That's a big achievement. great page.
