I was here for a business meeting, at the end of which I had two days to see the city. Two days do no justice to a such an ancient city which has so much to offer. Alas, I could only do the big sites and ate at 'safe' places instead of being more adventurous. Still, it was a memorable stay.
Beijing is an eclectic mix : the imperial, the gray and the ultra-modern. The imperial part of the city is typified by none other than the Forbidden City as well as the fast disappearing hutongs. In their midst are the gray, characterless residential blocks. And there are the bold architectural statements of the past decade. |
