  • Of course, your trip to Paris isn't complete without making a trip to the top of the Eiffel Tower. Also, make sure to take a glimpse of the tower at night. During the first 10 minutes of every hour, the tower twinkles with thousands of flashing bright lights.

  • The Place de la Concorde is the largest square in Paris. It is located along the Seine and separates the Tuilerie Gardens from the beginning of the Champs Elysées.

This square held the infamous guillotine used during the time of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette

The Egyptian Obelisque (Obélisque de Luxor) in the square was given by the ruler of Egypt, Mohamed Ali, to Louis Philliipe. The obélisque is 22.83 meters high and weighs 230 tons and was installed in 1836.

There is another Obélisque de Luxor that remains in Egypt today.

  • Famous for housing Leonardo Da Vinci's "Mona Lisa," the Louvre is the home of many rare collections of art. Give yourself plenty of time to see the main sights...the museum is huge!

I definitely recommend the English walking tour. The tour cost 3 euros and it lasted about 2 hours. They showed several major works throughout the Louvre and, of course, the Mona Lisa. It was a great way to get through the crowds, to see some of the larger sights and to get an overview and history of the Louvre itself. Also, we were only two of three people that took that tour. We had a nearly private tour of the Louve with a Parisian University Historian.

Notre Dame de Paris: Notre Dame Cathedral

  • Notre Dame Cathedral is one of the most beautiful gothic cathedrals in Europe. This cathedral houses one of the Pietas. We went to the cathedral in December and there was a beutiful display of a life sized Nativity.

Like all history teachers preach, Notre Dame houses a beautiful array of flying butresses. Take the time to view them outside the church before you move on to see the artists and souvenir shops that surround the cathedral.

  • Visit this church located outside of the heart of central Paris. The views from the steps of the Sacre Coeur are amazing!!!

The interior of the church contains one of the worlds largest mosaics, and depicts Christ with outstretched arms.

"The nearby bell tower contains the 'Savoyarde'. Cast in Annecy in 1895, it is one of the worlds heaviest at 19 tons."

Go to the top of the Dome on a clear day and get a beautiful view of all of Paris.
