Sun, sand and shopping... One of the most fascinating destinations in Southeast Asia can be found in the southern part of Siam (Thailand) where you can sophistically enjoy basking under the sun, protected by those colorful sun-umbrellas and cosseted from the distraction of the bustling commercial districts. And yes, even a soothing back rub and foot massage while watching the lovely meeting of the waves and the shore... |
| | Patong Beach Its hard to believe that Patong was a sleepy little Muslim fishing village jsut 15 years ago. Nowadays, instead of fishing nets drying out on the beach there are bodies sunning themselves.
The mosques are tucked behind a muddle of hotels, bars and shops. There's a saying on the island that goes "If you cant find it in Patong, it doesnt exist." A bit of exaggeration of course, but the essence of truth is there. There seems to be something for everyone in this town, albeit rudely packaged and lacking in class. For those staying in Patong, it is sometimes difficult to get out of the place but be assured, its worth it to rent a car or tuktuk and get out of the madness for a day or two of the outstanding sceneries that sorround this region. |
| | Kata and Karon Beaches Kata Beach is dominated by Club Med but thic scenic beach is open to the general public. Good snorkeling is available at the north end along the small reef found there. Kata Center, along Taina Road offers lots of opportunities for shopping, browsing and eating. There are two good used-bookstores in Kata, if you are seeking reading materials for those lazy days. At the end of the day, you'll find a potpourri of specialty restaurants and souvenir shops.
Karon Beach a real contender for the title of Softest Beach in Thailand. As you circle the roundabout, you can choose to reat sumptuous seafood at the beach-side restaurants. Do a little shopping or head inland ;to the bars and eateries. |

janetanne Thu Feb 21, 2008 10:33 UTC Hi Ken. No, I am not a photographer by profession, but I studied Art in school and university, so I guess my eyes have been trained to see as an artist tries. I'm glad you like my photos. janet |
