Lobby of Century Hyatt
A large sized room (by Tokyo standards) with a very comfortable king-size bed (requested with my internet booking). White fluffy bathrobes for two, bedroom slippers, and all necessary amenities. A good view of Shinjuku as we had a higher floor.
Bathroom was a tad small, but came with a full-sized bath tub.
In-room fast speed internet connection, large business desk and three phones.
Updated as at October 2005:
I brought along Fred's Butterfly (his VT name is PALS) and took a photo (see pics) of it from my hotel window at night-with the lights from nearby offices shining against the night sky. Quite a pretty sight, isn't it?
Unique Qualities: The staff spoke English and provided impeccable service (from the reception, concierge, restaurant wait staff, to the baggage handlers). Lobby is quite impressive-see the tiled marble flooring. (see pics) Due to the rather impressive lobby and lavish ballroom, the hotel is a popular venue for weddings.
We were able to rent a phone from the concierge at a reasonable rate.
A good buffet breakfast was available at the Coffee House, which incidentally has a nice view of the small garden outside. Japanese breakfast is also available at the Japanese Restaurant.
In short: recommended if you can get a good rate through the internet!

hotel shuttle bus
A lovely hotel that I would recommend. Suitable for the business traveller and comfortable for a couple travelling together.
Tokyo hotels tend to be more for the single traveller, so smaller rooms with single beds are common. However, this hotel is different and we were able to secure a double room, with a king-size bed.
Smoking and non-smoking floors are available.
Unique Qualities: The Airport Limo Coach that covers a few major hotels in the Shinjuku area drops people off directly at this hotel. We found this very convenient upon our arrival at Narita Airport which meant that we did not have to lug our luggage around on the subway.
There is an excellent complimentary shuttle service to and from Shinjuku Station (drops off in front of Odakyu Entrance). It operates three times per hour from the hotel and also picks up three times per hour from the station. The coach driver is always punctual, so do be on time. This helped save expensive taxi fares (approx 660Yen one way) and also your tired feet (a 10-12 minute walk to the station).

Shinjuku Washington
A comfortable hotel with reasonable amenities. Small rooms & bathrooms but then, this is Tokyo, one of the most expensive cities in the world, so what do you expect?
A convenient store at the lobby level (Level 3) and its own shopping mall and a number of restaurants all within the same complex.
Unique Qualities: Close to major business district, shopping district, red-light district (Kabuki-cho) and also to the Shinjuku train station from where you can get to all other major Tokyo districts.

view from my room on the 17th floor
Bath room & bedrooms were quite small, but overall I found the room to be clean, comfortable and quiet (despite running at 100% occupancy). The basic amenities were all there (including a small pot to boil water, some cups, adjustable air-conditioning, some hangers for your clothes, tv, small refrigerator, good quality shampoo and body wash, bedroom slippers and a Yukata casual kimono made of cotton).
Unique Qualities: Three choices of breakfast : Western with some Japanese(Level 25 at the Manhattan Grill starts at 7 am), Japanese (2nd Floor) or Sandwich Set with small salad buffet at the Lobby Level (Bonjour on the 3rd Floor, starts at 6 am, a quick bite for those who have to leave early. It sounds small, but was enough for me).
I loved the electronic toilets that are so user friendly!
Limousine to Tokyo Disneyland is available every morning (80 mins journey)
Automatic check-out machines at Lobby Level (Level 3) - what great efficiency!!
Great location in the heart of Shinjuku and within walking distrance of a few major tourist attractions such as the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building & Observatory Towers, Shinjuku Times Square (Takashimaya Department Store) & the red-light district of Kabuki-cho.
