On Malaysian public beaches, you will find that you can enjoy the beach in true blue Malaysian style and you won't even need a swim suit!

Join children and teens who will be found jumping into the water fully clad in long tracksuit pants and t-shirts. Black is the favourite colour among the young female teenagers here probably because of their less transparent qualities....

For those who would like to, there are black rubber tubes (see pics)and deckchairs that are available rental. The tubes really do resemble car tyres.

Going to the public beach is usually a family affair and you will find parents and grandparents sitting on mengkuang mats while keeping an indulgent and watchful eye on their children. For the well-planned, home-cooked food is a must-have. The typical fare for lunch at the beach is white rice, chicken curry, beef rendang and fried meehoon, which is washed down with lots of icy cool teh ais limau or pink, creamy sirup bandung. For those who like to do things on an impromptu basis, you will find it easy to have a picnic because you can always buy packets of nasi lemak, sandwiches or fried noodles at nearby stalls. Go on, join in and enjoy yourselves!

Tip for Supermums & Dads: The public toilets & bathrooms are not always clean nor well-maintained. Bring your own towels, and shampoo, change of clothes and it's best to save the serious bathing for when you get home.

Pros:"great food, warm friendly people....eco-tourism is starting to take off"
Cons:"the toilets...improving, but not quite there yet"
In A Nutshell:"Malaysia, Truly Asia - it's not just a slogan. There's so much to explore!"

Thanks for the tips D! I am looking forward to seeing KL. I hope some of the toilets have improved since you wrote your tips, but I will come prepared just in case. My wife is more picky than I am, so she needs to be warned! hehe B
