Let your Wings Take Flight

The State of Sarawak is in the island of Borneo. Its capital city is Kuching and the other famous city is the city of Miri, which I visited many years ago, but have not made a trip there in recent years. If you want to read about it, please read VT'er Mansionion's definitive Miri pages. I have also visited the timber town of Sibu on a few business trips, but it was a while back and I may not have taken any pictures. Such is life!

This page was built, not because I have travelled widely within the state of Sarawak, but because of the limited options to classify places that are within easy reach of Kuching (by car or taxi), but not truly "off-the beaten path."

They are not themselves "Must Sees", but more like a don't miss, if you are already in Kuching for a few days or nearby (only a short 1.5 hour from Kota Kinabalu or KL by MAS or Air Asia).

Come on guys. Let's explore the outskirts of Kuching together!

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Lovely food, friendly people, orang-utan sanctuary, jungles and beaches
  • Cons:You would need a car to get around.
  • In a nutshell:More than Jungles and Beaches
  • Last visit to State of Sarawak: Dec 2004

What is the restaurant like at the Palm resort? Is this resort suitable for children?

W_O, I want to go to Sarawak some day. Sematan's Palm Beach Resort is a good tip but I think I would head for the interior with a stop at the Semengoh Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre.

Fantastic little known beaches look enticing but it would be the hawker market that got most of my attention. :=)

Lovely Arial pic of the river and the Damai Lagoon looks excellent. Its looks like a nice place to get close to nature with all that Jungle.

We have jelly fish in Greek waters too! Now I'll know what to do if one bites me! Should I ask the hunky life guard to 'save' me????
