Patong-Life's a Beach

Street food is available everywhere. You can find grilled meats (similar to Malaysian satay but without the hot peanut sauce), grilled chicken wings and grilled corn or freshly fried pad-thai (fried kway teow noodles with bean sprouts and sprinkled with crushed peanut topped with a squeeze of lime). There is a good number of Halal food outlets being sold by Thai Muslims at stalls near Kalim Beach (northern Patong) along Phra Baramee road and also along Year 2000 road not far from Novotel Phuket Hotel.

Not far from JungCeylon, you'll find a street packed with open-air seafood restaurants in a row. Try them out. Remember to bargain & you'll get a good deal. (Usually the items which are not on the menu are better priced and seafood is sold at per kilo prices)

Soi Bangla is always a hive of activity in the evenings, when it is closed off to traffic. At the corner, you'll find Tai Pan, a large night spot/disco, and right across is a place to watch live Thai boxing, Tiger Entertainment (the crowds only start from around midnight & goes on till 2 am), and the nearby Banana Disco on Thaweewong road is always popular with Western tourist and locals from 10 pm till 1 am. Expect to pay around 300 baht cover charge with 2 drinks included.
Even if you can't dance or don't drink, go there to gawk at people of all ages, in different shapes and sizes.

Pros and Cons
  • Pros:Tidier & brighter streets, Phuket and its people are prosperous
  • Cons:Overbuilding, inflation
  • In a nutshell:nice sandy beaches, shady casuarina trees, exotic 'dancers' and more!

Excellent nightlife tip, W_O; however, I am a Nai Yang Beach guy rather than a Patong Beach guy. Sounds like you had fun.
