| Darkening skies around KLCC |
Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC) has become the symbol of the city of Kuala Lumpur. The brainchild of Malaysia's ex-Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahatir Mohamad, its majestic Twin Towers act as a beacon, calling out to locals and travelers alike. The towers can be seen from afar as you approach Kuala Lumpur from Ampang, Cheras, Petaling Jaya or Seremban. This photo was taken from Jalan Bukit Bintang in front of Starhill. Don't the shiny Twin Towers of steel look brilliant against the backdrop of a darkening sky? |

| | Lorong Kuda (Horse Lane)
Let me introduce you to Lorong Kuda, once a quiet residential street, it was recently widened to create a tunnel into and out of the KLCC car park. The road is certainly a godsend to office workers and visitors to the KLCC and its surrounding business and shopping areas.
From Jalan Tun Razak you turn left onto Lorong Kuda. There is presently a vacant plot of land on the left (not shown in the picture) where an old building was torn down and on the right is an up-market apartment called Desa Kudalari. Just before the entrance to the KLCC car park, there is a set of traffic lights.
HOT TIP: It's really the Best Place for a Photograph with the Twin Towers The spot just before the tunnel leading into the KLCC car park appears to be a favourite among tourists and locals wanting to snap their pictures with the magnificent twin towers as a backdrop. It is the only place where you can stand and take a picture of yourself & the entire twin towers without the towers being blocked by another building or you being too close to the building to get all of it in.
Moving along At this same set of lights, if you turn right, you’ll get back onto the business district of Jalan Ampang (home of Citibank). If you turn left, you will drive into the leafy and elegant areas consisting of Jalan Stonor, Jalan Kia Peng and Jalan Eaton. This used to be a purely residential area with quarter and half acre bungalows, but many of these older properties have been turned into trendy restaurants, cafes and art galleries, although a few families do still reside here. The Vietnamese embassy and a couple of royal Sultan’s palaces / holiday homes are also located in this area.
But where are the Horses?
Did you know that the KLCC was once the home of the Selangor Turf Club? Yes, interesting isn't it? Therefore where once horses (kuda in Bahasa Malaysia) used to race, now there are cars, trucks and motorbikes-some of whom still speed as if they were on the race track!
Footnote: Personally, I feel that this fact is somewhat "underplayed" in the media because Malaysia's official religion is Islam and as a Muslim nation, all forms of gambling (including horse racing and betting on numbers) is discouraged and frowned upon. The racetrack has been moved to the outskirts of KL to a place called Sungei Besi-this is where the luxurious Palace of the Holden Horses Resort and its Golf Course now also makes its home. Still want to attend the races? You can find race courses in Penang, Ipoh and Kuching. Alternately, just go to the F1 circuit at Sepang!! LOL |

This picture was shot from Jalan P. Ramlee and features only one of the Petronas Twin Towers, with Menara TA One on the left of the picture (thanks Mansionion!). | | |
