London has a reputation for being expensive for tourists, and certainly many of the tourist attractions are extremely pricey (Madam Tussaud's for example).
On the other hand, a lot of museums and other things to do are free, so you can see a lot in London without having to spend a fortune.
Top free things to do include:
1. The British Museum. A wonderful collection of historical and cultural artefacts from all over the world. If you are interested in Egyptian archaeology, once you have seen the sculpture and mummies in the British Museum, you can visit the Petrie Museum at nearby UCL (also free).
2. The National Gallery and National Portrait galleries, located in Trafalgar Square.
3. Watching the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace. |
Food can also be expensive, but there are ways to cut costs.
Sandwiches and soft drinks can be purchased from supermarkets (and even Boots the Chemist). Avoid burger vans outside tourist attractions! Look out for 'all you can eat' oriental buffets. |
