Local Customs: Good Advice
  • Tip Rating:
  • Costa Rica is a stunning land, with much of it heavily forested. The coastal areas are ringed with mangrove and there are herbaceous swamps. Looking for a beautiful location we jumped for joy finding a perfect surrounding which included hundred of palm-trees, green grass and a small restaurant-house nearby. We would get wonderful summer fashion-shoots. The grass-land moved and rolled when walking over the grass. That was fun too ...

We started early in the morning, had a break during the hottest day-time, and continued to photo-shoot until sunset. Then the photographer had a "great" idea to do one more shot with sunset. I prepared the models, when a local man came to us to tell we better move away. Yet the photo had been taken, and we finsihed in time ...

I lost my best powder-brush, and went for a going back. The same man walked with me, and warned for the palm-swamp! What palm-swamp??? He explained this spot was a palm-swamp on a wetland ...

Wetlands are dangerous, mostly close to swamps and mangroves. Though most species living in wetlands are endangered... mostly protected species around are crocodiles, caimans, snakes, otters, peccaries, pacas, spider monkeys, curré toucans, parrots and great currasows ...

Especially with sunset all these creatures "wake up" and do not like humans. Then it is time to move away! Thank you!!!

Excellent useful tips for any first time visitors to Costa Rica. What a beautiful country but thanks for all the warnings of the danger and of the nasty insects :)
