Lochem is located in the "Achterhoek" of province Gelderland (East Holland), meaning something like "in the corner's backyard". For a true city-dweller it is miles far away from city-life. Although raised close to the jungle of Papua Irian Jaya, Indonesia, the life on the farmland is familiar, even pleasant and comfortable to me. Loved the traditional farmer's house (named Athanor) where we stayed! And see the panoramic views with amazing country-like pictures.

Probably a little, wooden church was the centre of Lochem in the 8th century. A stone building got replaced in around the first millennium (1000 AD), and not until the 12th century the West-tower was seen which in 1903 got its high peak. Within the St. Gudula church you can see some beautiful painting out of Mediaeval times ...

See the beautiful, red stone-coloured City Hall in Lochem where we got "welcomed" by a blue ribbon hanging next to the City Hall (Hartelijk Welkom in Lochem - Welcome to Lochem).

When entering Lochem to its centre you'll pass the crossing to drive for Borchem and Ruurlo. This area probably housed some rich Indo-families who named their houses after the Indonesian islands, like Celebes, Sumatra and Borneo. Would love to take a look inside the houses ...
