Carnaval Antigua

The locals told us about, ... alas! we missed this wonderful event. It is about a 10-day festival of ladies in colorful costumes, huge pageantry, people showing their talents, and ofcourse the working up Carribean music. The festivities, actually for celebrating emancipation, are exciting and extensive, so get to the spectacular Parade of Bands, the Miss Antigua Pageant and the Caribbean Queen's Competition (in 2004 it was Saturday July 24 th until Sunday August 8 th).

So Friendly People

Antigua is mostly inhabited by African people who are descendants of slaves. They met the Antiguan Siboney Indians (Stone people).

People mainly live from cotton production, and there is plenty of fruit, like bananas, coconuts, mangoes, cucumbers, sugarcanes.

Maybe because of its rich nature and wonderful weather on this tropical island its people are so extremely friendly. Antiguans are warm and friendly people who are quite hospitable upon your arrival. All of us had a great Antiguan experience during our stay and loved as well the high educated staff of the "jet-set" hotel as the locals on the beach ...
