Ofcourse the Sizzler is well-known by most of the tourists, so why not having dinner here at Thai Pattaya. It is one of the very busy restaurants, easy to reach (ground floor Royal Garden Plaza, next to Marriot Hotel) and a big hit for the salads. Mr. King Salad allows you to go for the salad as many times you wanna go up (about 150 Baht) ...

Keep in mind the chocolate cake and some jelly sweets, those are included, too!

Favorite Dish: Dangerous thing is you may gorge yourself on the salad, especially when very hungry. We committed ourselves and went too fast at the first time, dummy we-fooks. Completely stuffed we went for the chicken dish and spare ribs (for about 150 baht each). So go for a slow start, so you have some room for the main dish. Very good for the whole family!

Truely this delicious salad is not originally Thai, and coming from Laos. Though the SOM TAM salad is popular in most areas of Thailand. Taste and try it, and you'll know why. Because the salad is made of the young green papaya fruit, it is called Papaya Pok-Pok, too. That is because of the sound "pok-pok" when prepared. It's a beautifully unique and flavor-filled salad that is easy to make, low-calorie (& low priced), and very nutritious.

Favorite Dish: The slightly tart flavor of the young and green papaya combines well with the spice of red chili peppers and the saltiness of shrimp paste and fish sauce, plus the sweetness of palm sugar or honey. I always enjoyed this great salad on the beach (for about 45 Baht!). Take care by ordering the Papaya Pok-Pok or SOM TAM and NOT the one with the little black crabs in it (locals love it!). You'll probably die of the collywobbles ...

    *N A M * S I N G*: EDIBLE BIRD-NEST SOUP

Nam Sing is a Chinese restaurant you can find in the Second Road. Their speciality is sea-food and, a lot of Chinese come here. That is a good sign and indeed, we had such a wonderful diner. The lobster was an exquisite dream like the ocean-delicacy snacks. Inside is AC with fine interior decoration. When you want to smoke a cigarette, you have to go outside on the terrace. Mr. Nam Sing himself came for a nice greet and allowed me to take some photographs of the "edible bird-nests", produced by the legendary swallow bird. That is their speciality and delicacy here ...

Favorite Dish: That was a totally pleasant surprise. To see the edible bird-nests on the menu! Especially because these swallows I study, together with the legends about the Javanese Southern Ocean Goddess (see link). And these edible bird-nests usually are very expensive (it can be up to 9000 TBT for one bird nest!), and guess what? In the Nam Sing a soup made of these edible bird-nests is only 200 TBT! Surprisingly the soup is a sweet tasing one and, a delicious on for sure. I had my Edible Bird-nest Soup!!!
    SUPERTRUPER!

Friends kept begging me to put this topic with "Restaurant Tip", so here it is once more.

Probably you can find the bugs-food on the Chinese Market, where you can find the snakes, too. But when walking in South Pattaya you may watch these bug-creeps for sure at the evening market. When walking via the Pratamnak Rd. go right into the Soi Diamond, the Arab area. You'll see restaurants, food-stalls and hawkers all over the place. Somewhere in centre of this area there is mamasan insect-preparer at left-side.

When walking via the Walking Street find the Soi Diamond. Just walk on through ...

Favorite Dish: Find the vendor cart. You probably will dash over this spot, not that striking. But take a good look! And see for yourself the smashing and delicious snacks the family is preparing there. Deep fried scorpions and cockroaches, sweetend grasshoppers, sugared mealworms, shining beetles, fat, huge water bugs, lovely wasps and other fresh bug creepies ...

Ehm... which one is favourite? I really donot know and considered all kind of bugs and insects of all sizes aren't that bad for our stomach. We just forgot how to eat these creeps. Maybe a deep fried whatever will be ok, with the taste of a dried prawn. Though when the fluid is coming out of its stomach, dripping in your mouth ... I guess you'll gonna be sick!

Lobster Pot: Like On A Cruise!

  • Restaurant Name: Lobster Pot

This is "Appetites Ahoy!" in Pattaya. It is said "Seaside views provide the backdrop, while the crowds provide the references" of this seafood restaurant. Very true, entering the Lobster Pot and taking place on the terrace with sea-view and sunset. Choose what you want from the aquarium, it will be fresh prepared and served for you. You'll feel like on a cruise ... right on the place to pig out on Thailand's manifold fruits de mer.

Favorite Dish: We had a seafood dish which was really delicious. See the shrimps, king and tiger prawns, special scallops, mussels and the fish, we name "snapper" I donot know another name for it. Different sauces to add the sea wonders. Isn't the yellow perfumed rice like a little treasure? The plate was 1400 TBT for 2 persons ... not that cheap, though tip top, very good!
