Name of Shop: *S*I*A*M* *P*A*R*A*G*O*N*
Maybe not an ordinary department store though a fancy snobby shopping mall, that is SIAM PARAGON. It is prestigeous and already legendary. All what is expensive you can buy here. The grand entrance may give you the idea entering an exquisite place with exceptional architecture.
Walking around you get the idea the designers of this place want to show nature and culture, art and technology and ofcourse fashion and lifestyle. Even their entrance of their Website is amazing! Sometimes the mall is breathtaking indeed and I wonder if the Rich & Famous who come here do have the same idea about ... during their rush to get the newest trendy bag. Or the Lamborghini you can watch on the top floor ...
What To Buy: Ehm,... well,... I do write a column for a Dutch Make-up magazine. And mentioned a while ago the hot and new trendy product "Cle De Peau". A "powdery foundation" (to get a smooth teint) costs about 280$ !!!
And guess! The SIAM PARAGON has it! Isn't it a MUST for a make-up artist to have such a trendy hotty and snobby woe in his make-up trunk??? Nope, I walked on through ... *sigh*
What To Pay: Just mentioned! Though I've seen some girls buying a cheap small thing to get the handbag of SIAM PARAGON ... WOE!

Name of Shop: Siam Center / Siam Discovery Center
Siam Paragon may be hot, expensive and trendy, just next to it are the "twins" Siam Center - Siam Discovery Center, also hot, trendy and not that expensive! The Siam Center used to be the first shopping centre of Bangkok, where young kids met eachother. You still see young Thais around making fun and dressed up with such a multiracial style and taste. It's inspiring trust, and it is really great to shop around Siam Center - Siam Discovery Center. Busy shopping! And Sky Train BTS station very close to the place!
What To Buy: Siam Center is done by the youngsters, though it is fun for all of us! I love to go here for the design clothes, and compare them to the hot items on street. I still go back to this one, because I once had some phantastic trousers of Comme Des Garcons in Siam Center. Never found it again ... snobby me!
Siam Discovery Center is some moderner and more clear, each floor gots its own theme. You like trendy hot items, fashion hits, artistic accessories, and souvenirs in all kind of matters? Make your entry here with both of the twins!
What To Pay: Oow,... it depends... sale, bargains, haggle, we keep in business huh?

Name of Shop: Mah Boon Krong (MBK)
This MBK with that funny name is like an outdoor market in one huge AC mall and, one of the biggest shopping malls of Asia. What is the difference with the other department stores? At first half the city can be found here on any given weekend, like ants looking for their needs at thousands of small shopping stalls. And ... it is amazing to do your shopping here, because you literally shop until that famous dropping stuff! The variety is indefinitely so you take your time getting dazzled like me every time again. It is a culture in itself! A lovely one!
What To Buy: Mad about the Siam Shops I do always feel like coming home with Mam, the MBK. The name brand knock-offs, clothing, shoes, the beauty area, electronics, accessories, travel gear, mobiles, decoration stuff, too much ...
What To Pay: You really want to know? I just forgot! That much I bought ... shame me!

W A T S O N S: Need Some Personal?

Tip Rating: [Not enough ratings yet] |

|
Name of Shop: W A T S O N S
Always feeling fine when there is a shopping place for "personal care", like a chemist and pharmacy. In Asia you can find the pharmaceutical chain of WATSONS, also importing products from USA, Europe and Australia. It used to be the chain of health and beauty products and for now there are about 49 stores in Bangkok and 13 in BTS Sky Train Stations.
What To Buy: All you need for "personal care", and special needs for "cosmetics manufacturers". Included the medicaments you may get at the pharmacy, too.
What To Pay: Because of the imported products the price aren't that cheap! You pay about the same price you should at home ... (like 129 THB for headache-pills).

Name of Shop: Jim Thompson's Shops
Where Mr. Jim Thompson housed is a very touristic area, and so is the Jim Thompson Factory Sales Outlet store in Bangkok Centre, offering a very wide range of quality souvenirs and accessories for home. But the company credits affected the international market for Thai silk, for queens, princesses, countesses, other royal personalities and moviestars. For now it is solidly positioned with the taste of the middle-aged mamasans.
Mr. Jim Thompson received a world-wide known good reputation, became a tireless promotor of traditional Thai arts and culture. And got into the spheres of mystics and mystery because of his intriguing disappearence. Yet a lot of young and trendy fans found their way to the Jim Thompson's Shops, because of some very nice items.
What To Buy: Famous was his housecoat, made of beautifully weaved silk with a multified colour design. It costed about 10.000 THB, not that cheap though also not that stiff and high-priced ... Unfortunately I can tell you that the beautiful housecoat is out of his collection! So the ones who do has this item, are the lucky ones heeheeh,... snobby you!
What To Pay: A t-shirt by Mr. Jim Thompson is about 5.000 THB

Name of Shop: Siam Square Shops
This is hot top! GATEAU HOUSE is nothing less than a home-made bakery and got into the chain of leading Thai-owned bakeries. I think there must be about 50 Gateaux House shops and Siam Square was one of the first. They have the best-in-town sweetnesses, chocolate and bread and scrape, as we name a wonderful delicious toppings on a bun.
What To Buy: So hard to point at one the most delicious sweets ... try the creampuffs filled with creamy pandan leaves custarded flavour. Looks green like the Hulk, but it is >>> D E L I C I O U S ! ! ! Maybe a burnt cream Gateaux with chocolate, or cheese. And point at a bun that makes you lick your chops! Just try, there are miscellanies of pork meat, chicken, fish ...
What To Pay: Not that much, about 20 - 40 THB for one protion or bun
