watch-rolex
Love it or loathe it, Penang's flea market at Lorong Kulit has gained quite a hiphop reputation among Malaysians and tourists alike. Formerly at Rope Walk it is for now next to City Stadium. Electric stuff, watches, shoes, second-hand goods, antique, well, try a good bargain.
Maybe a true Thieves Market once today you may acquire the goods in a legal way. It is just fun to try and find you some bric-a-brac or excellent finds ...
What to buy: The name of Lorong Kulit already is worth a while, so we went our way and managed to buy there our Rolex. However, if there is a kingdom of watches in Asia (near Hong Kong, Japan or Malaysia), its King will certainly be Rolex. This is because my Asian family is extremely fond of Rolex watches, I heard. Best time to get there is about 10 am when most of the traders would have displayed their goods ...
What to pay: Paid about 30$ and enjoyed a long time this faky ...
Address: City Stadium off Dato Keramat Road
Directions: The market can be found at the intersection of Lebuh Acheh and Lebuh Armenia, right beside the City Stadium off Dato Keramat Road

See one of the tallest building in SE Asia; the KOMTAR, Penang's largest shopping paradise (64 stores). When staying at Golden Sands Hotel or sister Shangri La Inn a shuttle bus will drive you to Georgetown and you can carry out all your shopping in this complex.
Take a walk along the streets nearby where in practically every corner, there are departments stores and shops some for everyone. For antique hunters, a short walk to Jl. Pintal Tali, otherwise known as Rope Walk is a must. Here, you can find treasures from the island's interesting past; bronze pots, chinaware, ceramic, silver and even gold Dutch ceiling fans ... all at negotiable prices.
What to buy: We spent an hour or so looking through discarded, musty, dusty collectibles and made the best for our own fave souvenirs. I loved the batiks, endless in print and colour and, I managed to get my personalized seals, handcarved ivory stamps. If you're really tired of the "tawar", negotiate, take a walk into the jungle like I did ; -))
What to pay: Negiotable prices, my personalised seal and handcarved ivory tiger stamp was about 15 RM
Address: Penang Road, Georgetown - Penang
