Not knowing anything about Malaysia's "Pearl of the Orient", a fashion-job brought me to the beautiful tropical island of Penang, about a hundred kilometers South of Langkawi. Better known as the Island of the Betel Nut.
For Harper's Bazar and Shiseido Beauty Products I travelled with a small fashion-crew to Batu Feringghi Beach at Pulau Penang, to the North-west of Peninsular Malaysia and, a well-known holiday destination for millions of tourists from all over the world. As fabulous as its beaches are, you would love to experience the deeper mystery of Penang ... Indeed a multi-cultural melting pot, thanks for visiting |
| | Fashion Whisper Sorry, not a love-scene with me and the model, just a fashional whisper about Penangs mystery of ancient past which is a missing link. Because there is not that much of evidence about ancient Penang, Malaysia, nor any written records.
It's true Malaysia played its huge role in history of Indonesia during the changing of the Indian Ocean. Well, a creepy skull from the Niah Caves, Sarawak, took care of some surprises because of its dating back from 35.000 years. |
Indonesia Involved With Penang And Happy-Me finding that Penang had been involved with Indonesia. Early India-writings tell about the mighty place of Sawarnadvipa, known as the Land Of Gold. Some of a mystical, fantastically wealthy kingdom that was a far away, dangerous and unknown island, while legendary tellings holds that searching for this kingdom of Sawarnadvipa the first Indian people crossed the sea to reach the Malay Peninsula.
There was an Indonesian Kingdom, too, that reigned Cambodia for a long time (15th century) which was the strong Kingdom of SRIVIJAYA on Sumatra island. This mysterious Kingdom was the very first Kingdom in the Malay Archipelago and famous for its ... GOLD! So,... was it Penang, or Sumatra??? | | |
