Maybe you noticed, the terryfying landing at Ende's paved, well-equipped but awully windy airstrip. Wind whips across the bottleneck of a promontory formed by a small outlying volcano. Did you notice the palm heads toss as you came down???
It may be a drab town running down to a revolting beach, but is surrounded by fine mountain scenery. The perfect cone of Gunung Meja rises almost besides the airport and the larger Gunung Iya occupies a promontory South of Gunung Meja. Get a jeep to enjoy the mountain scenery and see where the palm trees of the airport welcomed the newcomers.
Please, donot worry when the bridge has gone to pieces. All people will join to get the jeep across the bridge. That helpful gesture is well-known all over the Indonesian islands... as the "gotong-royong"! It is so fun being a member of this "gotong-royong" ... so, go ahead!

I agree Jadedmuse,... Just the black was stunning, the waves dangerous, and the beach filled with insects. That's why we decided to lay on the rocks, where we could wet our bodies anytime, without pulled into the water ... tnx for comment |
