What can I say about Scotland? It's been several months since I was there and I let it slide, that is updating this on my travels. You know, after a trip, back to the grind, and it was hard to put all my thoughts together after I got back from my trip to the UK and France. But this is what I remember from my entire trip this August 2004, I absolutely fell in love with Scotland! There aren't enough words to express how the beauty and wonder of the country. I was only there for two or three days but I didn't want to leave. |
| | My brother and I arrived at Heathrow and immediately took the train up to Edinburgh. I was exhausted and not really prepared to deal with the itinerary we had planned out in the short stay in Scotland. We arrived around 6pm and headed to the Bedford Hostel. The hostel wasn't great but it did the job...we stayed in a six bed room, three bunk beds, a little cramped. It was noisy too because the hostel was a converted church, and the rooms where compartamentalized and no ceilings...so any noise made at one end of the church could be heard at the other end. I was exhausted...so the noise of chattering teenagers at 2 am in the morning did not bother me at all. |
| | I had booked a tour with Haggis Adventures..who definitely come recommended if anyone is interested in looking up a tour outfit...in Scotland. My brother and I got up early, as we had to meet up at 8am. We wondered Prince street early, 6 am...the city was asleep...I was surprised..but then again, with bars closing at 4 am in the morning...perhaps I shouldn't have been. It felt like we were the only ones awake in the city...it was quiet, peaceful...the city was just waking up. What I really liked about Scotland..and Edinburgh in general...is seeing the modern life set against the beautiful, historic backdrop that is Scotland. The mix is astounding, almost intoxicating.
So, I"m rambling....but I'll lay it out here for you. If you have the chance to go to Scotland...go...especially in August, when the city is alive with people, shows, festivals, music...New Years is great too, from what I've heard from friends. But GO, GO GO.... you won't regret it. You'll be blown away...the country is intoxicating, it's mysterious....the lore will draw you in. |
